SEC's Dominance Could Be Coming To An End

Am I wrong or right? The SEC's dominance over college football will eventually come to an end because other conference's are stepping up. Most notably, Ohio State hiring Urban Meyer. He brings an SEC style of recruiting and coaching to the B1G, which hasn't gone over well with some of them, but will ultimately force them to recruit the same way as Ohio State, whether they like it or not. The result? A stronger, more competitive conference that can compete better with the SEC.

We've seen a similar thing in the Pac 12, although to a lesser degree, with Oregon. Teams have changed the way they practice and prepare for the Ducks, both in the week leading up to their game with them, and during the off-season. And teams like Washington State, and Arizona have gone out and hired spread coaches.

  1. SEC being dominate has nothing to do with coaches.. We have different rules when it comes to how we deal with scholarships, that is where they make the most ground on the rest of us, they can just offer a bunch and the ones that don't work ...out pull them before the roster needs to be finalised.. We can't do that in the B1G.. So Urban can do what he wants but he starts doing dodgy scholarships and he'll be done for it by the B1G..

  2. That said they are being forced to change and they will fall back to the rest because 'Greyshirting" is done in the SEC now or they will face probation & bans..

  3. college football is by far #1 in the south... NFL is #1 pretty much everywhere else.... money gets pumped into the SEC schools by alumni and donors like no other... there are some schools here and there that can do things like this... but ...those are localized examples... your texas, oregon,etc.... and with that extra $...they are able to assemble high priced coaching staffs, 5* facilities...huge crowds for games, more $ to be spent on recruiting.ANd where do the most top recruits come from....SEC territory.... The SEC isn't going to just stop dominating... now will they win every national title...no. Bc you're going to have teams like the following that can match up with them...Ohio St (in a few yrs)...USC(now)...Oklahoma, Texas(they'll be back), Oregon(still improving)... outside of those ones... i dont see too much changing at all.

  4. Thanks for the response Wes but, it's not about coaching? Alabama wasn't doing anything under DuBose or Shula. LSU wasn't doing anything under DiNardo, and so on.

    1. Good Coaching helps but when you have a far larger pool of players to look at the pick from it gives the coach a better chance to succeed..

    2. I mean I think Dantonio would have done the same with Bama's team last season.. I have no doubt he would have actually..

  5. Wes... not going to happen. The SEC has more $$ to throw around....which makes it much easier in numerous avenues...and they are in a talent rich area for recruits.
