All the time, I hear it from Beaver fans...I get grief for our connection with NIKE, and being "Uncle Phil's" school. Which is pretty hypocritical because last time I checked, they are a NIKE school as well. And NOW, one of "Uncle Phil's" closest men - Tinker Hatfield - the man behind the Air Jordans, and the design of the Oregon uniforms, is going to make osu his little project, by trying to copy Oregon's success at Oregon state.
Thing is, Oregon state IS NOT Oregon. Much different culture, much different atmosphere, much different fan base. And it shows in the way they bash Oregon and NIKE, mostly out of jealousy. But that's why they don't deserve it, that and the fact their football program is third rate, and deserves a third rate brand to match. A brand like Russel, or Champion would fit in more with their blue collar, lunch pale attitude, don't you think?

For those who say Eugene is blue collar too, I say:
ReplyDeleteThere are some areas. A lot of the people that go to Sheldon come from pretty middle-upper class families. But you can't get me to budge from my point: beaver fans claim to have this rugged blue collar program, they're not like Oregon. Thats what they pride themselves on, them not being like Oregon and having to "whore" themselves to NIKE. So it doesn't matter if Eugene is blue collar or not, we're not trying to be one way, than do something else.
